Pundi Sumatra, through the support of the ESTUNGKARA Program, on Saturday (26\/8) held a GEDSI(Gender Equality, Disability, and Social Inclusion)<\/em>training in order to reinforce the values of gender equality, justice for women, partiality for people with disabilities, and marginalized groups. happening in the surrounding environment, especially in the implementation of the ESTUNGKARA program. Strengthening this capacity is intended for the internal Pundi Sumatra Team, as well as for strategic partners. ESTUNGKARA is a PARTNERSHIP program which is also known as the INKLUSI Program. This program emphasizes efforttackling poverty and inequality, promoting women's leadership and empowerment in inclusive development, as well as equitable access for groups with disabilities.<\/p>\n

For four days this activity took place at the Independence Hotel Muara Bungo Jambi. Wenny Ira and Zubaida as gender activities in Jambi, were presented as resource persons to provide material about GEDSI for the Pundi team. In addition to delivering material on the concepts of gender equality and disability, Wenny also modified the training with active discussions through group work.<\/p>\n

According to Wenny, gender-based injustice consists of 5 types, the first is subordination <\/em>or considering women as second class. This subordination creates discrimination for women. Discrimination is a type of gender injustice. The third is a double burden, generally women have more household chores than men. Marginalization or the existence of marginalized women and violence is the next type of gender-based injustice that often occurs to women.<\/p>\n

The hope of strengthening this capacity is sufficient understanding from the team regarding GEDSI mainstreaming for the implementation of SAD assistance at program locations and the preparation of GEDSI Safeguard<\/em> Safeguard documents for institutions as a guide in implementing existing programs.<\/p>\n

Parallel to this training, Pundi Sumatra also created a separate class for cadres from the Suku Anak Dalam Community (SAD); namely from the Pelepat region of Kab. Bungo and Bathin VIII District, Kab. Sorolangun. Accompanied by field facilitators, these ten participants followed the material presented by Zubaidha as the resource person. Five of them were women and 1 cadre was a person with a disability.<\/p>\n

The discussion, which was developed informally by Zubaida, actually provoked the active participation of the women cadres who were involved to talk.<\/p>\n

\u201cWomen are synonymous with gentle nature, men with tough nature. The role of women is generally to take care of the household while men's job is to earn a living.\u201d<\/em>said Amira when asked about the different roles between men and women that occur in her community.<\/p>\n

When asked by Zubaida whether there was a ban on girls going to school, the participants shook their heads in unison. \"We don't forbid girls from going to school,\"said Pak Juray,<\/em>Tumenggung from Pematang Jumat who was also presented by the committee.<\/p>\n

After providing GEDSI reinforcement for SAD, on Sunday (28\/8) the committee also invited the village government to take part in this training. The aim is to assist village government organizations and institutions in developing policies and work programs that are inclusive and have a GEDSI perspective. This activity was attended by representatives of the Village Government and BPD of Dwi Karya Bahkti Village and Representatives of the Bathin 8 Village Administration, Sarolangun Regency.<\/p>\n

On this occasion, the village government was again educated about state policies for GEDSI justice. The material presented was regarding human rights conventions for women, children and disabilities, regarding the Village Law related to gender and disability. And the last one is laws related to women which can be used as a reference in implementing policies or programs at the village level.<\/p>\n

Edi Endra as the coordinator of village assistants at the Jambi Province level was also present to participate in providing capacity building, delivering material on the role of the village government in strengthening gender justice and disability at the hamlet or village level.
